Who Are We
The First Base Agency is a small registered charity and in June 2008 we saw our fifth anniversary. We are a drug, alcohol and gambling information centre based in Dumfries in the South West of Scotland. When we first opened our doors back in 2003 our prime goal was to provide information, advice and support for local families affected by a loved one’s drug, alcohol or gambling problem.
Since then the number and variety of services has expanded significantly. Our support projects not only help families but also women at risk of violence as a result of addiction problems and Veterans who have been drawn to drink and drugs as a means to deal with battlefield demons.
Our public information work involves us in giving drug and alcohol awareness presentations to over 2500 primary and high school pupils. We also offer training to support agencies and businesses, work closely with the local media and give talks to a variety of community groups.
Each year we issue over 800 food parcels to those in need and give ‘signposting’ advice to over 300 visitors to the Agency.
